IEEE AIUB Student Branch WIE Affinity Group successfully organized a workshop series on “Web Design from Scratch: ‘HTML, CSS & Bootstrap”
On 16th & 17th October 2020, IEEE AIUB Student Branch WIE Affinity Group in collaboration with the IEEE AIUB Student Branch has successfully organized a two-day long workshop series, titled “Web Design from Scratch: ‘HTML, CSS & Bootstrap”. Amid the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, the workshops were cordially organized through a virtual platform of CISCO WEBEX MEETING. Both of the workshops were inaugurated by Tasnuva Tasneem, Motivator & WIE Coordinator, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB who notified the participants regarding the importance of web design in modern times. She also expressed her gratitude towards the participants for their tremendous response in the web design workshop series.
The first day of the workshop series titled, “Workshop Day 01: Learning HTML” was successfully conducted by Victor Stany Rozario, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Science & Information Technology, AIUB. He started the session by discussing the different parts and types of the website and how web development has turned over into a high-end job sector in the current technology. He then gave a detailed theoretical idea regarding the basic building blocks of a website i.e. HTML along with its importance in web development. Afterward, he elaborately discussed the career guidelines for the enthusiasts to get started with front-end web development. The workshop was concluded with an interactive question-answer session where Mr. Stany cleared all of the queries from the participants.
The second day of the workshop series titled, “Workshop Day 02: CSS & Bootstrap” was successfully conducted by Md. Tariqul Islam Manon, RWD (Responsive Web Design) Mentor & Career Advisor, CodesTrust Bangladesh. He started his session about the theoretical concepts of CSS (Cascading Styling Sheets) and various taglines of CSS including its most popular icon set and toolkit. He also spoke briefly about the usage and properties of each tag and classes of CSS along with their importance. Mr. Tariq also emphasized the wide range of web applications of Front-End Web Development in today’s technology. Following that, an interactive Question-Answer session took place which marked the end of the session.
The two-day long workshops were put to an end by Dr. Mohammad Hasan Imam, Counselor, IEEE AIUB Student Branch; Advisor, IEEE EMBS AIUB SB Chapter; Senior Assistant Professor, Faculty of Engineering, AIUB who delivered the concluding speech where he expressed his wholehearted gratitude towards the honorable speaker and all participants for their valuable participation in the workshop series. The event was graced by the presence of a total of 93 participants.
Following that, a Front-End Web Design Competition was also organized where participants were given a sample task by the means of their creativity and designing skills. The competition started from 19th October 2020 and ended till 28th October 2020 with the aim of preparing the participants for a highly paid job sector of Web Designing and User Experience during this worldwide crisis. A total of 55+ individuals participated from all over Bangladesh and also from three other Asian countries. The judgments of the web design competition were made by some highly qualified and expert judges based on criteria which include- Creativity, Usability, User Experience/User Interface, Navigations, Formats, Styling, and many more. Based on these criteria, the top 3 Web Designs provided by the participants achieved the “Best Web Designer” award along with a Certificate of Appreciation. The top 3 achievers along with their position are mentioned below-

- Md. Hasibul Hasan Shovo (1st Runner Up)
- S.M. Khalid Mahmud (2nd Runner Up)
The top 3 Web Designs were published on the official website of the IEEE AIUB Student Branch. Moreover, all other participants were also provided with a Certificate of Participation for their enthusiastic engagement in the competition.
